Position Purpose
This position assists in the design and implementation of a comprehensive infection prevention programs and interfaces with all health system departments relating to infection prevention, national initiatives, and external reporting. This position contributes to the accountability in the achievement of system Infection Prevention goals and as part of the Quality Department and in collaboration with key stakeholders, identifies opportunities to utilize infection prevention data to improve clinical outcomes. Areas of key focus will be to assure surveillance protocols are followed, accurate surveillance data is collected, analyzed, and reported, and active participation in educational programs and various committee and organizational activities. The Director of Infection Prevention and Control oversees process and quality improvement teams and coordinates multiple initiatives, projects, and teams.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent assures that the system defines and implements processes and best practice in infection prevention to reduce/eliminate hospital acquired infection, assure appropriate vaccination and prevention strategies are followed, and provides a method of surveillance and reporting of infection rates and information. The Director accomplishes this by supporting clinicians that drive clinical process and outcomes improvement, with the use of accurate and timely data on progress to goals, establishment and monitoring and consulting on key clinical best practices and processes and eliminating variation from agreed on practice and process. This system-led and supported Infection Prevention approach will be key to the organization in meeting the Infection Prevention goals set internally, as well as the reporting and regulatory requirements set by agencies such as CDC, CMS, and Joint Commission.
The Director of Infection Prevention and Control shall have the authority of Renown Health to develop and implement policies, and systems to prevent and control infections and communicable diseases. The Director of Infection Prevention and Control or designee is the infection control officer for Renown Health, developing and implementing policies governing control of infections and communicable diseases. The Director of Infection Prevention and Control develops systems for identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases. Working in a collaborative environment with system infection prevention physician leads and other infection control practitioners, the Director is directly accountable for the achievement of system-wide Infection Prevention goals, such as reducing/eliminating hospital acquired infections (i.e. Central-line associated blood stream infections, surgical site infections, MRSA, urinary catheter associated infections) with targets as defined by the executive team during strategic and operational planning.
This position requires a blending of leadership skills, clinical knowledge, the ability to facilitate and manage complex projects, integration of projects within existing regional resource microsystems, in a way that is perceived as providing value to the regions in reducing infection and improving patient care.
This position does not provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: | Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor’s degree required in a health-related field, Master's preferred. |
Experience: | Three years of increasingly responsible management experience in an acute care environment. |
License(s): | Ability to obtain and maintain State of Nevada Registered Nurse License required at time of hire. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid State of Nevada driver's license and ability to pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria required at time of hire. |
Certification(s): | CIC credential through CBIC within two years. |
Computer / Typing: | Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Must be proficient in statistical analysis. Prefer experience with infection control software programs. |
